Intune Onboarding and Deployment Profiles

A Windows Autopilot deployment profile decides what a brand-new device does the first time it is switched on: how it joins Microsoft Entra ID, how much of the out-of-box experience the user sees, what the device is named, and whether the primary user becomes a local administrator.

From Secure > Intune > Onboarding you can build these profiles as templates and deploy them across every customer, so device provisioning is identical no matter which tenant the hardware belongs to.

The section has two views:

• Deployment Profiles — profiles deployed in the selected tenant

• Templates — your reusable profile templates and baselines

Access. You need the Manage permission on Intune.

Prerequisite. The customer tenant needs Intune licensing and devices registered with Windows Autopilot. Hardware is normally registered by the OEM or reseller, or by importing hardware hashes. See Convert all targeted devices to Autopilot below for registering devices you already manage.
